2013 Overland Expo a Good Barometer of Healthy Adventurers Industry

The 2013 Overland Expo took place May 17-19 in Flagstaff, Arizona. This year’s theme was “Get outfitted. Get trained. Get inspired. Get going… the world is waiting” and the Expo was worth the wait. “The Overland Expo is a physical barometer of the health of this industry, which is vibrant, diverse and growing rapidly,” says Scott Brady, Overland Journal Publisher.

The Expo featured a full slate of courses for trucks, Jeeps, motorcycles and even included classes on cooking and getting published. One new feature was the instant mobile app, giving smart phones access to information including schedules, maps, and personal profiles. Another was onsite NPTC certification, giving attendees a chance to test and get certified for overland driving proficiency.

“It’s become the global gathering point for both adventurers and manufacturers,” Brady said. “What makes the Overland Expo so unique is the quality and variety of attendees, where it’s common to hear four or five languages being spoken within earshot and exceptionally experienced travelers sharing their knowledge with enthusiasm.”

Other highlights included an Ask Jeep Consumer Feedback Panel featuring Scott Brown, Chrysler’s Western Region Communications Manager. Scores of adventurers, circumnavigators, and overlanders shared experiences and expertise during the three-day event. Panels, workshops, and clinics were well-attended for levels ranging from beginner to advanced.

Vendors and sponsors at Flagstaff included ARB 4x4 Accessories, GOAL ZERO, and Factor 55. Gathered at the Midway were the vendors who sponsored many of the classes and clinics offered. “We enjoyed our time at Overland Expo 2013,” said Mark Tetreau, co-owner of Scooter and Auto Source with his wife Jill.

Scooter and Auto Source hails from the URAL mountains of Arizona, and serves automotive and scooter needs for on- and off-road vehicles. “We had an opportunity to introduce new clients to the Ural brand and share the enjoyment of the vehicle as a dual sport for the entire family,” Tetreau said.

Adventurers who want to share their stories and images gather at the Overland Expo held yearly at a Southwest locale. Those who regard their four-wheel-drive vehicle or motorcycle as a passport to explore will find kindred spirits, valuable classes, and plenty of adventure.
