"The all new line of Smittybilt XRC bumpers for the 84-01 Jeep Cherokee was engineered to provide maximum ground clearance. Manufactured out of 3/16" cold rolled steel that is robotically welded to exact specifications."
Just going to give a few heads up for anyone looking to buy. 1. expect install to take an entire day. 2. Bumper with tire adds over 300lbs so your suspension will sag more in the rear. 3. Jerry can holder does not fit a real Jerry can. go figure. 4. Don't expect to hear back from Smittybilt if you have any concerns. 5. hi-lift jack does not fit vertically like shown in the picture but fits horizontal across the top bar. 6. watching the rear tire bounce back and forth while driving down the highways makes me wonder how strong the latch is that holds the tire carrier shut. 7. hitch receiver dimensions are off. You may have to hammer the hitch receiver in and out. SO far the bumper still looks good and serves a purpose, the price was great compared to other brands. My main discontent was that after writing the company about my concerns with the jerry can holder I have never heard back from them and its been over a month.
This product is pretty heavy duty, I have not trail tested it yet, but mounting and lining everything up was pretty awesome. Matches cherokee body lines and looks great! Tire carrier fitment is great as well takes some time to adjust the gate swing level so there in no interference with the bumper, but it's worth it for the seamless look. I have a few complaints the packaging of the bumper was terrible, yes it was a heavy package, but box was torn apart and bumper was scratched pretty deep even with the thick powder coating... I was ready to accept this as normal for heavy package shipment until I opened up my ORF front bumper that I ordered...they plastic bagged the bumper and then used this thick spray foam into the box.... It arrived at my doorstep perfect unlike my brand new scratched up rear tire carrier..... None the less it's gonna get hammered on the trail, but just feedback. Also if you have a factory installed tow package on your cherokee (mine did 1987) then the right side bumper mounts will interfere with supplies mounts.... With a little modification it will work. Also if you intend to attach 60" highlight jack to supplied mounts, the jack does interfere with the lift gate slightly, I will need to modify bracket. The smaller hilift jack will probably be fine though. Overall, from fitment perspective, it's a great purchase, worth the money and I would recommend this product to a friend.
Well, it might be long but here is my saga with the bumper..... 1) Received incorrect bumper even though box was marked with correct number. 4wd drive took it back and sent me a new one 2) New one came and it was damaged and parts were missing. The packaging of the bumper is very poor. Too much weight in one box. Again, 4wd took it back and sent me a new one. 3) New one came and slight marks on it but was do-able. Went to install and there I ran into issues. The driver side lined up nicely with the quarter pannel (flush) but on the passanger side there was a gap of 1/4-1/2 inch. There is no adjustment to the bumper for front and back. I ended up hammering the back end of the passanger side so that the 'bumper hanger' moved forward. Still not enough though. Had to add washers to the driver side to make the 'bumper hanger' move back. Lastly there is only one bolt hole for the gas tank sheild and muffler hanger. I am assuming that it should be enough once everything is tightened, but only time will tell. As for the carrier, did not have a problem per se, but I have not driven it around yet to see how it works. Also, the latch on the carried can not be locked.
It says it fits 84-01 jeep cherokee, but it says when i click on it that it does not fit my 97 cherokee country whats different?

Please send me a close up photo and instructions for the highlift jack placement/mount. I have the 48inch unit cannot figure this out. The photo shows the foot resting on the swing arm not in the cage portion. Thank you, Michael

Michael, the Smittybilt XRC Rear Tire Carrier Bumper with Hitch can be mounted horizontally to the tube with the clamps or you can mount it to the MOLLE mounts on the carrier vertically with the tube clamps or just some bolts. The way the instructions show it are horizontally but it's basically the same mounting but on to the MOLLE mounts. Hope this helps!

Is this product the actual bumper along with the swing arm carreir? Because this is the best priced one i have ever seen and a lot of other i have found the bumper and arm are sold as two different parts.
