"The rear bumper is manufactured out of 3/16" cold rolled steel and comes standard with a built in class III receiver hitch and two solid d-ring mounts that are welded on the inside and out for maximum strength. Bumper is designed to accept the Smittybilt Swing Away Tire Carrier #76654.The swing away tire carrier can be added to the bumper at any time."
It looks and works great. The instructions are unclear and the gas tank must be removed first. It's very difficult to re-install the straps. MAKE SURE you are low on fuel. You don't want to be wrestling with a fuel tank with 120 lbs of fuel inside! I'd give it 4 or even 5-stars, but the installation is a huge hassle. Give yourself plenty of time to install.
This XRC bumper looks great on my 02' TJ. Much heavier than the stock bumper, but that adds to it's durability. Had to drill 4 additional 7/16" holes into the Jeep. These 4 holes require you to drop the gas tank to get to the backs of them. Make sure to spray them up with some black paint to prevent any future rust. Had to notch out the skid plate in order to get the tank back in place. I found it very difficult to line up the holes for the very last bracket I installed. Please allow yourself plenty of time to get this done. Having a second person to help makes things go much faster.
I was impressed by the strength of the bumper. It was the only bumper in the catalog to have a towing rating from the manufacturer. My son and I installed the bumper in about 2 hours. We loosened the gas tank to get to the 4 bolts, and had to notch the skid plate to clear the backside of the hitch. I realized that I would need to torque the bolts after installing each set of brackets, as the next bracket would cover the bolts from the previous bracket.
I like the bumper it looks great the welds in the inside look like a three year kid did them and I had to remove my gas take to bolt it on a lot of work but a good bumper I would do it again
Bumper is great, solid, gives rocks a hard time, and Im not sure if it was by design but the bumper protects the right and left rear lower corners of the tub which tend to take a beating. Swing arm comes seperate but I recomend it, it is a bit of a trick to get it to level out, and you can expect to have to lift it up a tad to get it to lock, but it's no real issue even with a 35" on there. Plan on setting some time aside. Getting the mounting by the gas tank is a pain but yes it can be done without dropping the tank, just prepare to be frustrated and kick and fuss like a kid in a toy store not getting a toy. Take the time and drop the tank, and do it with low fuel. I have slammed a few rocks and other than some powder coat missing from it, i's say the rock got the worst of it.
Fairly easy to install except for the 4 bolts behind the gas tank. Had to lower the tank to install on my 2005 tj. Also, bought longer bolts at hardware store to attach side braces to frame. Made that job a lot easier. Wouldn't take for the bumper now that it's installed. You just have to be patient and take your time with those 4 bolts behind the gas tank.
This was a very good investment in performance capability. I added this and the tire carrier to my 04 LJ in 5 hours.Wow!! What a great combo.
One answer states this bumper is rated for towing, another says it is not. I'll be towing a 1500 lb. trailer, will the receiver on this bumper handle it?
Asked by Jef from Great Lakes on
Hi Jef The XRC Rear Tire Carrier Bumper is 5000 pounds tow rated so that should not be a problem just go with what rate Jeep says you can tow with your vehicle. Thanks

In the description is shows the XRC with pictures of the tire carrier. In the written specs it says that the tire carrier is sold separately. Can you please clarify that the tire carrier is or is not included for the XRC? and the price of the two combined? I am interested in both together. Thank you Scott
