I am glad I had my Smittybilt X20 10k yesterday... Was in my JKUR and slide into a washout that was next to a ravine that my wife and I could have easily rolled into and down the hill. My buddy hooked up the synthetic line and ol Smitty came through and got us back safe. I am a fan!
I did a lot of back and forth on winches before I ordered the 10K lb X02. I was looking at Warn winches as well as a few others. I knew that I wanted a synthetic rope and it needed to be waterproof. You never know where you will get stuck, and the fact that mud, water crossings, and rain could potentially damage a winch that wasn't water proof kept me away from a lot of the competition. The warranty was another selling factor. I just couldn't bring myself to spending over $1k for a Warn winch. The reviews of the Smitybuilt winches were amazing and after my buddy pulled me out of a bad situation with a 9500lb XRC winch I was sold. This winch looks great and was incredibly easy to install.
Purchased this winch after alot of reading. For the money felt this was my best value in a winch. I live in Colorado near the mountains and have been hesitant to venture too far off the beaten path with my TJ until now! I installed this winch in an ARB bumper which was a very tight fit but worked out nicely. Just like many other reviews my battery was dead in the controller but my local 4 Wheel Parts store gave me a new one. My TJ is a hobby ride so I have not put the winch to real use yet but when wrapping the line under a pretty heavy load did not have any heat from the winch at all. If anything changes on this as time goes on I will be sure to pass the info along.
The wireless controller works great from start n the cab or 20 ft away!
This winch looks great on a Silver Jeep with a Black bumper. I have only used it once to pull the Jeep up the hill (you have to install rope under a load). The pull was a good speed and smooth. The install was somewhat easy. However mounting the electrical box to the winch itself was a PAIN. I found it best to remove the front brace bar of the winch and then the box fits on easily.
Its so nice to have the wireless remote so you can check the lines and snatch block and any of the other connections because it has a much farther range than the 12 ft. wire! I have never had a winch that free spooled as easy as this one!
My question is the same as previously asked and answered. The Staff Reviewer answer appears incorrect. Just looked at the hook on a newly unboxed X20-10K GenII. There is no pin to remove the hook to allow replacement. Previously asked Q&A: The issue I am wondering is how to get the hook off the wince line? The reason I want to install a Factor 55 Pro link. I know if you didn't care about the hook you could cut it off but be a nice hook for a spare or another use to try and save it. Asked on 10/21/2014 by Joe from Utah Staff Reviewer A: Joe, the winch hook on the Smittybilt X2O-10K Waterproof Synthetic Rope Wireless Winch Gen2 with Fairlead can be removed easily by taking out the cotter pin that holds it in. I hope this helps!

Swamper1, the Smittybilt X2O-10K Waterproof Synthetic Rope Wireless Winch Gen2 with Fairlead will need to be spliced into the rope. The steel cable uses a cotter pin but the rope needs to be spliced in. It's a very simple job and there are a ton of videos out there on how to do it. Hope this helps!

I accidentally left my remote turned on and flattened the battery, it still works ok with the cord connected but I want to use it wirelessly. Is the battery rechargeable and if so how do I charge it?
