Manufactured from 3/16 inch cold rolled steel plate and will provide you the maximum protection. Available with D-rings and the new Wrangler bumper is offered with or without a winch mount that holds up to a 10,000 lb. winch. Bumpers bolt directly to your vehicle and requires no drilling or modifications. Two stage matte black powder coat finish with 5-year limited warranty.
Install was pretty straightforward. Inside bolt holes did need to be redrilled due to a slight misalignment, but not bad. Gas tank does have to be dropped to get the inside holes started. If running 32x11.50 tires, you will need to purchase an adapter plate for the spare the raises it up and out. The bumper is about 3/4" higher than stock and interferes with the 32's, not allowing you to shut the tailgate.
Replacement for rear bumper and hitch assembly damaged in rear end collision. Body shop installed, so don't know how difficult or easy it was. Looks good, but receiver is angled down. Anything plugged into it hangs at an angle instead of sitting level
You will need help to position into last two bolts. It is very heavy, and by yourself it can be a challenge. I love the clevis rings, and they are very well welded to the bumper. The bumper also has a hitch port, so can be a real help for towing and positioning trailers.
The advertising says it bolts on with no modification. The instillation instructions say that older TJ's (1997-2002)will have to have two holes drilled in each side of the frame to bolt the bumper on. The hole thru the 2" receiver is metric size. A standard 5/8" pin will not fit, and a 1/2" pin has lots of slop. The hole will need to be drilled out to 5/8" to properly retain any standard 2" drawbar or accessory mount.
I had to drop the gas tank to access the 4 new holes that needed to be drilled, originally I just drill the holes and could not get the bolts started in the new hole locations so I drop the gas tanks about 2 inches which was just enough to move it around so I could access and tighten up the bolts.. It would have been nice if the instruction explained this step.. this install took 5 hours from removing the stock bumper.
This was the second smittybuilt product I've bought, and it will be the last. The bolt holes dont line up right, close but not close enough. The no drill install comment is a joke. I had to drill four holes, then redrill those four holes oversize to even attempt to line up the bolts. The frame reenforment plates had to be cut to fit in place. It is impossible to get the bolts started with the gas tank in place.
The bumper is very well built but as stated in ad "no drilling required" is not the truth. Had to drill four 7/16" holes in the frame to attach the new bumper and cut the metal tabs/braces to fit behind the new bumper. The bumper is very durable and fits my needs for 4-wheeling but it is not a simple bolt-on process as claimed by the manufactor.
Great bumper for the price. Installed it on my 94 YJ. Had to partially drop fuel tank to slightly enlarge 4 factory mounting holes in the frame to get hardware to line up. Bumper comes with metal template for hole location, this was a great help. 10 mounting bolts assure a solid and strong assembly.
can you haul a medium sized trailer with this bumper? or can you haul anything at all? i assume that is what the hitch is for
Asked by Mark from Ky on
Hello, With the Src Rock Crawler rear bumper it is a class iii hitch. So yes a medium sized trailer wouldn't hurt the bumper, however I would watch how much you haul with the stock springs and shocks so you don't have any issues. If you have anymore questions feel free to ask, Thank you.
