The Smittybilt Oversize Tire Mount is the most economical way to mount an oversized tire onto your 2007-2010 JK Wrangler. Attaches to the factory tailgate using the existing holes and requires no drilling or modifications. Completely adjustable and designed to mount up to a 37" tire or up to 195 lbs. Engineered to integrated with existing tailgate and works as one solid unit. Carrier and tailgate open and close as a single unit. Adjustable arm eliminates tailgate sag. Comes in a signature series matte black textured finish.
I bought this for my wife's 12 JK. She has a pretty heavy wheel and tire combo (120lb). The stock carrier wasn't up to the task of supporting the weight. This carrier pulls the tire closer to the body and helps keep the tire from shaking up and down. Been pretty pleased with it so far. My only issue was that the instructions in the box were incomplete. I had to go to the smittybilt site to get the full direction.
very easy to install. works well.
This carrier is well priced, easy to install, and does what it needs too. I dont consider it a long term solution however. The entire weight of the spare and the carrier is being held by the tailgate. It does carry the tire very close to the tailgate and there are no rattles. I dont see any issues with it in the next year or two.

Hi George There is a hole and a notch on the plate that the lock would go through on the Oversized Tire Carrier. Thanks

I recently bought a used 2012 2-door JKR on 37x12.5R17 tires that did not have a tire carrier or a spare tire when I bought it. It does have the mounting bolts in place. It has a stretched 4" suspension lift, and the rear frame crossmember has been modified to more closely mount a plain rock crawling bumper that has no options for mounting a tire carrier spindle, nor does it have a hitch receiver. My two questions are: 1. Will this carrier work for me to mount a spare when I don't have the original tire carrier? 2. Are this carrier and the tailgate robust enough to endure 4-wheeling with a 120-pound 37" tire on the tailgate, or would I be better considering a replacement bumper with a bumper-mounted tire carrier? Thanks!

Rock Doc, the Smittybilt Oversized Tire Carrier will hold a 37" tire just fine. However a 37 will be the max you can put on it. I would feel safer with you using one like this: http://www.4wd.com/Jeep-Bumpers-Jeep-Tire-Carriers/Pivot-Heavy-Duty-Oversize-Tire-Carrier.aspx?t_c=64&t_s=26&t_pt=3902&t_pn=S%2fB2843 to hold a 37" tire. It's a much better design and will hold the tire more securely. Hope this helps!

Will this carrier work with my 2014 JK Rubicon factory rim with 35" tire on it?
Asked by Silverback from Spotsylvania, VA on
Silverback, the Smittybilt Oversized Tire Carrier does not work with factory wheels. If you buy aftermarket wheels, then this will work just fine with 35's. Thanks for the question!
