Replace those worn out factory hood catches with a new set of Stainless Steel or Black powdercoated catches. No drilling required, Sold in pairs.
Nothing lined up correctly. The job that should have taken 30 minutes tops turned into a 3 hour job. I'm not a fan of these hood latches. I will say the locks themselves seem durable, but I might just put the factory latches back on. They look good on my jeep, but it doesn't seem worth the time and money. Save your money and do not purchase these...
I had to drill holes to line up pins. I wish I would have read other reviews before buying this part. Terrible product. Gave it one star because I could not give it zero stars.
I wasted 2.5 hours trying to install this (I'm VERY competent with Jeep aftermarket installations) AND THE POST did not LINE UP. "locking" is a misleading word when used to describe this. The underside of the post is exposed in your wheelwell and can be sinmply unscrewed, leaving your hood basically unlocked-
What should have been a 10 min install took nearly 4 hours.. the pins would not lune up with the lock holes. They give you washers to raise the pins but I ueed them to extend the locks on the hood. Also if you tighten the nuts for the lock too tightly, it pulls the bolts out of the lock. But they made it so you can screw them back in with an alan wrench..
Followed the included directions exactly, part DID NOT FIT my 1998 Wrangler. The only way to get the pin and lock to line up and allow the hood to close was to leave it so loose that it was barely attached, and even then, with the lock closed, it was held shut so poorly that I was able to open the LOCKED latch by simply pulling upward on the hood. NOT RECOMMENDED.
It looks really good, hard steel, reliable etc... But I had to drill new holes for it to fit so that sucked.. But now it's finally mounted after a lot of work, and it looks good, works good etc.. but too much work when it says that it's replacement for factory latches..
My latches lasted only two Indiana winter seasons. The internal threads on the right latch wore out with lite rust and popped off. All my miles are road miles and my 99 TJ is exceptionally clean. I bought these due to the area i work in and wanted to secure my engine compartment.
Hi, I already own these hood catches and they are freaking awesome! Unfortunately, the rubber pieces are cracking/splitting; is there any why to just replace the rubber pieces? Thank you, in advance!

Hi tbird The only thing we have for that is the DAYKJ09145BK, not sure if they will fit the S/B as they are designed to fit the stock factory catch. Thanks

need height from bottom plate where it bolts to fender to where hook latches. Thx, Hal

Closed - the distance between the base and the hook is 3-1/4 inches. You can pull the hook to about 4 inches when hooking up to the clasp. I hope this information is helpful. Thanks!
