I have a 2003 Wrangler. How exactly does this item work? Once it is attached, do you open the tailgate and tighten the knob to keep it in place? Does it work in both directions? That is, will it keep the tailgate from shutting on you or keep it from opening to far,like if you are on a slope that tilts the passenger side down? Thanks.

Hi SandRat, This Rugged Ridge Tailgate Stop enables you to adjust how far you do or don't want the the tailgate to come open with a turn knob. The knob will hold the tailgate open and when loosened the tailgate will close again. Thanks for your inquiry.

Will this work on my 1983 CJ7?

Mel, the Rugged Ridge Tailgate Stop is designed for Wranglers that have a swing open tailgate. The CJ's all have a drop down tailgate meaning this part can't be used or adapted to work for them. Thanks a lot!
