Rugged Ridge offers piece of mind with this tough skid plate. Constructed of durable 3/16? thick powder coated steel with a rust resistant E-Coating, this skid plate will keep rocks and trail debris from damaging your steering box. The low profile design keeps ground clearance at a maximum. Installation uses existing mounting locations.
2012 JK sport doesn't have body mounts where this bolts to frame cross beam had to drill holes. the bolt in back is blocked by exhaust pipe near impossible to tighten. Instructions are bad or just wrong
Simple bolt on installation for a good price.
Installed in a JKU Sahara 2010 Very bad design, left arm is hitting the front bar. Have to cut it. Right arm is about 1" from the skid plate, have to use a lot of washers.
nice durable cover. ellen bolts need to be up graded they are not worth the metal they are made of
It's a very sturdy skid that looks the part. It required some cutting & drilling to install on my particular year of Jeep (2012 JKU - I think cutting and drilling required for 2010+), so not bolt on. It didn't cover as much of the front end as I expected, but still a solid front skid.
Good, quality fit and function at a nice price. Overall decent protection. Only bad side is the sub-par allen bolts. Re-use your originals, as the allen head bolts are easy to strip if they are snug and RTV is around the threads on install.
Overall, a nice piece of protection. Fits as designed with no problems. Just re-use your original diff cover bolts as the allen head hardware supplied is cheesy. If the open hole in the allen head is packed full of dirt...good luck, and if they stick, they are not coming out after you strip the allen head holes from reaming on them.
Product fits nicely without modifications. Be sure to leave all of the bolts nice and loose before tightening any one of the. Heavy duty with a nice powder coat finish.
Easy to install and provides good protection for the steering box.
Do I need to also purchase straps?? And if so what kind.

Hi LS, This Rugged Ridge Gas Tank Skid Plate does require 2 straps, one for d/s and one for p/s. Here they are, thanks for your inquiry.http://www.4wd.com/Jeep-Engine-Performance/Gas-Tank-Strap.aspx?t_c=74&t_s=433&t_pt=4782&t_pn=CRO52100235AD

I have a 2000 TJ Wrangler, and I am in need of a gas tank skid and in my many searches I have found that most manufacturers specify that their skid plates can not but used with a body lift in place, I currently have a 1" body lift to accommodate my high clearence tranmission skid plate, will the Rugged Ridge model work with a body lift? It does not specify in the details I have read here and on other sites.
