These Hatch Covers fit directly over the existing gas cap opening. They attach directly to the original equipment plastic insert using self tapping screws. Some drilling required. Come in Locking and Non-locking.

when the cover is properly installed-- does the outer edge of the cover stay on the plastic or does it surround it and "seat" against the painted metal of the quarter panel?

Hi Harrison! The outer lip should stay on the plastic inner liner and should not touch the painted metal.
