Its fits 1968-1982 CJ with a 3 wire plug. It will fit your 1978 DJ as long as it has a 3 wire plug.

The one I took off my 1978 cj7 is square will the round one still fit

Shirley, The Omix-Ada Windshield Wiper Switch is the correct wiper switch for your vehicle. It sounds like someone may have modified it so there may be some wiring and tracing involved. Please let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks!

how do you wire this switch. i need a wiring diagram

Unfortunately, the vendor does not provide a wiring diagram. I can tell you that this switch functions like the OE equipment and plugs in to the main wiring harness under the dash. Hope that helps. Thanks!
