To increase the mobility of a wheeled vehicle operating in soft terrain such as sand, mud, or snow, it is necessary to increase the footprint of the tires. This is achieved by decreasing the tire?s air pressure. This mobility is only achieved if the wheels are equipped with a tire bead locking device. Hutchinson's wheel design allows the use of internal beadlocks, keeping them street legal.
Wheels were delivered faster than expected. Packaging was top notch and instructions were easy to follow. First wheel took a little longer, but once you get going these are not too hard to assemble with tires. Looking forward to lowering the air pressure and testing these off-road.
There is nothing better that getting to the trail head and airing down. There is also nothing worse than looking for some traction and spinning your tire off of the bead. I have used single ring steel beadlocks in the past with ok results. Sometimes bolts on those rings get so mangled that you couldn't hardly get a socket on them. There is also the potential to push on the tire from the underside of the Jeep and break the bead. The tire doesn't come off of the rim, but a flat is still a flat. The split design of these Hutchinson wheels will let you mount the tires in your own garage with a little effort and without a tire machine. They also keep the threads and nuts back inside the outer ring of the wheel, that helps keeps rock rash to a minimum. The best part is that the actual bead lock is internal and keeps pressure on both sides of the tire to the wheel. All of that and D.O.T. legal. I have seen tickets for fender flares not being wide enough, can you imagine the ticket for 4 illegal wheels on the street? $$$ Basically it's a good looking wheel. It's lighter than a steel equivalent. It's made by Hutchinson Worldwide. The same place that makes wheels and tire protection for military, police and fire departments, and those giant mining front end loaders. Chances are you will never see the time in the rocks or abuse those guys do.
I am lucky enough to live close to some of the best wheeling on the east coast and these bead lock wheels are worth their weight in gold. I usually drop my 37"s down to 8 lbs on Lions Den and haven't had the first issue. They look really nice and do exactly what they should, which is keep the tire on the wheel. The one and only slightly bad thing I would have to say is that if you are doing all 5 wheels you better have a day set aside to torque the nuts down. But if you do it correctly, the next time you check them they will still be tight.
These wheels are one of the few DOT approved beadlock rims available. When it comes to airing down on the trail or to go over rocks, these wheels are awesome. They feature a dual beadlock design which makes airing down to 0 PSI easy and worry free.
I use these on the Rubicon trail almost every weekend. They have saved my butt from not having a trail spare twice since you can drive them out without worrying about the tire coming off the rim
These Hutchinson Beadlock wheels are the perfect fit for my CJ. The black finish looks great on my white Jeep and they perform like a dream. I can finally air down without worrying about popping a bead, then air up and drive home LEGALLY at the end of the day! I was a little leery at first due to the price, but I definitely made the right decision.
Hutchinson D.O.T. Legal Beadlock wheels have it all: Great looks, excellent performance, and most importantly, an internal beadlock system that is D.O.T. approved. Now I don't have to choose between off-road performance and legality. These wheels look great in every finish, but I chose silver and I couldn't be happier. These wheels are on the expensive side but I think they are worth every penny.
My wife bought me these as an anniversary gift. We lost beads on 3 tires the last few times we were out, and she had enough of that! Now we don't have to worry when we are out the fire roads or high country trails.
Hutchinson Beadlock wheels are great for a weekend warrior like me. The D.O.T. legal beadlock means I can drive on these all week with peace of mind that I am not breaking the law. On the weekend I can air down and hit trails that were untouchable with my old, non-beadlock wheels. The argent finish is awesome, not too light and not too dark. Internal beadlock wheels are a necessity for anyone who likes to wheel their daily driver.
I did plenty of research and didn't see anything bad to be said about these bead lock wheels. I don't have anything bad to say either. I like the way these wheels look and I like the way they function. Once we got them all together they are really low maintenance. I haven't had a broken bead since I put these on.
One picture shows silver bolts and the others show black bolts. Which does this (Argent) wheel come with?

Hi Toph, This Hutchinson Wheels Hutchinson D.O.T. Beadlock, 17x8.5 with 5 on 4.5 Bolt Pattern-Argent comes with gunmetal gray bolts and nuts for the beadlocks, however there is a small black cap that Hutchinson includes on the end of to beadlock bolt. Thanks for your inquiry.
