To increase the mobility of a wheeled vehicle operating in soft terrain such as sand, mud, or snow, it is necessary to increase the footprint of the tires. This is achieved by decreasing the tires air pressure. This mobility is only achieved if the wheels are equipped with a tire bead locking device. Hutchinson's wheel design allows the use of internal beadlocks, keeping them street legal.
I am lucky enough to live close to some of the best wheeling on the east coast and these bead lock wheels are worth their weight in gold. I usually drop my 37"s down to 8 lbs on Lions Den and haven't had the first issue. They look really nice and do exactly what they should, which is keep the tire on the wheel. The one and only slightly bad thing I would have to say is that if you are doing all 5 wheels you better have a day set aside to torque the nuts down. But if you do it correctly, the next time you check them they will still be tight.
How do you know which wheel to purchase for a given tire like the 37" Goodyear MT/R Kevlar or the 39" BFG Krawler or a 35" BFG Mud-Terrain KO? Do they ask at checkout what size and brand tire you will be running so you get the appropriate Hutchinson rubber insert for the bead thickness of a particular tire. Can you order extra inserts for a different tire as well as spare O-Rings?

Hey Randy, these wheels would work for and tire up to 13.5 inches wide as long as the tire is for a 17 inch wheel. I don't believe that we sell the inserts extra. Thanks for your question.

Hutchinson Worldwide, subsidiary of multinational petroleum and chemical manufacturer Total, is the maker of Hutchinson Wheels. Hutchinson Worldwide started out back in 1853 as a rubber company whose biggest product category was not wheels, but tires. As it was back in 1853, militaries are Hutchinson's largest client category for wheels and tires. The same technological know how Hutchinson Worldwide applies to producing military grade durability of wheels for combat vehicles is the knowledge applied to designing the off-road wheels Hutchinson offers to Jeep owners.
