This rack is Much sturdier then I had expected. Installation was straight forward. If you want your Jeep to be limitless in what you can do with it, this is the way to go. I was struggling with this rack and a competitors. Garvin made the decision easy with the better cost. I am very impressed with the build quality, and am happy I made the choice to go with Garvin.
I'm hard to impress, but this was very easy to install and looks great on my TJ LWB Ribicon. Adds a lot of options for hunting, camping, and carrying jacks, tools, and more lights. I haven't tried getting the top off yet with the rack on, but the extra time it will take is worth the extra storage capacity.
As any Jeeper knows, you never have enough room for all your gear. This was a much needed option for me and I have no regrets. I rarely take off the hardtop so direct mounting to the roof was right for me. This rack is very well made and I am pleased with the roof attachment design. It arrived very well packaged and required complete assembly which while a little time consuming, was very easy. All told, from box to completed installation was about 3-4 hours. Probably would have been a lot faster but for me, drilling holes through my hard top was a bit stressful and I was really taking my time. Measure it ten times and drill once was my motto. Regardless, there is a lot of adjustment room so the rail mounting needs not be perfect, I'm just picky. The only down side is wind noise. It's not terrible but it is there. I probably need to get a wind deflector for the front of the rack.
This Garvin Wilderness Rack is a great addition to the JK Wrangler Jeep. #44002 are the bracket mounts sold directly by Garvin Wilderness to attach the Roto-Packs.
This trail rack was just what I was looking for. I didn't want to put a swing out tire carrier on the wrangler Rubicon. Strong enough for holding extra fuel. Even works with the CB bracket still mounted on the tire carrier! A bit pricey but well-built and designed. Garvin does also make to fit the rack a CB bracket to get the antenna up higher but I like it low just over the roof.
Most of the time all of my hunting and fishing gear fits inside my rubicon, when I take the wife, some stuff has to go outside. The rack makes it easier to take a friend. Just make sure it is waterproofed.
Nice rack, take your time, read the instructions twice. I laid out all the bolts before assembly. I sealed the bolts top and bottom to ensure no leaks. I took it out for a ride and no noise whatsoever. I did buy the air blade as well.
CARRIED WELL OVER THE RECOMMENDED LIMIT TRASHED IT HARD, AND BARELY SCRATCHES, BRICKS, RUMBLE. PROB HAVE OVER 400LB ON IT
I am a Boy Scout leader and needed room to transport gear. The Expedition rack is large and strong enough to hold a lot of gear. It fits my needs very well. It took a friend and I about 4 hrs to install the rack. The instructions provided are pretty good. We did get a bit confused while mounting the rear brackets but after that all went well. To install this rack both rear lights and the license plate holder need to be removed. Several holes need to be drilled in the rear quarter panels but with a bit of thought it is simple enough. The materials of contruction and fit are excellent. This is a very well made rack. I have compared it to Smittybuilts and several other manufacturers since I installed this rack and am convinced I made the right call. The wind noise was louder than I expected. I also lost about 1.5 mpg. After several weeks I installed the wind deflector. I gained back the lost mpg and the noise was reduced to an acceptable level. My advice - buy the wind deflector. It is also well made and looks good too. If you install the wind deflector the rack light mounts will not fit. Instead I installed lights on either side of the windshield (KC sells the mounts) and am very pleased with them.
Bought this rack a year ago. Great Rack! We load it up with our camping gear almost every month. Works great. We routinely load it with around 300lbs of gear. When the rack is empty the wind noise is more of a low rumble so does not bother us. Since the rack attach points are at the lower windshield and above rear bumper that puts the load weight at lower center of gravity which helps better than with a rack that attaches to the top of roof. Quality paint and welds. Still looks brand new. 4WD did excellent installation.
Hi I have a 2010 2 door Jeep Wrangler Sahara and was wondering if this would work with my stock rear bumper.

My 2015 Unlimited Rubicon has a XRC Armor Rear Bumper with hitch & tire carrier (S/B76856-01) The eight bolts on the tailgate are not being used. Will this rack clear the stoplight mounted over the spare tire? This would take a minimum of 17 inches from the top of the tailgate to the top of the stoplight. What is the out to out dimension of the vertical leg of the trail rack mount? Thank you.

Hello, Unfortunately the Garvin Industries Trail Rack is not designed to work with swing out tire carriers. Please let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks!
