Hi Ed, This vent has openings to release engine bay heat and is not water proof. Water will come in through it. Thanks for the inquiry.

What could happen when it rains? Water dropping through to the engine can't be good could it? jk 2012

Edge, the Daystar Side Hood Vents allow the engine to breathe, but the small amount of water that would come through these vents would not be detrimental to the engine. I hope this helps!

In some pix these vents appear to be 5 individual units (per hood side), yet in others they appear to be 2 long units that look like 5 individuals. What is the truth and is a large cut-out made in the hood to make these actually work?

Hello, these Daystar hood vents are 2 pieces one for each side of the hood. They require drilling holes in the hood to let hot air out and to install them. Thank you!
