The basket is large, and strong enough to carry a spare tire or camping gear. There is a front windshield to reduce noise and to keep some of the bugs off of the gear bags. We have included welded light tabs for those that want more light for the trail. The basket is painted in our dual process textured black powder coat finish.

The problem I have yet to figure out is the ungodly roaring as the air rolls over the rails at highway speed. It's unnerving. I spent four hours driving to Moab and back and think I'm now certifiably crazy. Is the base rack can be use with out the roof basket, if yes, does it loose strength ?? in fact what i would like to see is if it's possible to use the base rack as a sea kayak roof rack thanks

According to the vendor, this rack can be used with accessories other than the basket. The vendor recommends a maximum of 350 lbs. dynamic (while driving), less if on extreme trails, and 500 lbs. static (not moving). We recommend that you purchase Thule or Yakima Crossbars and the appropriate kayak carrier for best results. Thanks!

Body Armor 4x4 produces extreme off-road equipment for Jeeps and trucks. The company was founded in the 1990s in Corona, California. Body Armor engineers its products to withstand the abuse of the trail over and over while personalizing the look of your rig. Body Armor popular products include Jeep bumpers with integrated winch plates and multiple light mounting points, Trail doors that are predrilled for aftermarket mirrors plus thick nylon webbing to protect passengers from scraping branches and a very secure two position latch, plus rock steps that also function as sliders. All Body Armor parts are built for durability with a dual process powdercoat oversprayed with a textured finish and undersprayed with an e-coat. So corrosion resistance is quite strong.
