Just a heads up for JK owners. . .these DO NOT FIT JK WRANGLER'S! The set screws do not even come close to setting the mounting point on the hinge. They fit over, but you can not secure them and they basically FALL OFF. I wish I had known this before I waited 2 weeks to get these. Now, I have to find another brand so I can remain legal to drive without the doors. Hopefully 4wd is aware of this now.
these mirrors are easy to install and give back the side vision when the doors are off. The only problem is there is no adjustment to tighten the mirror itself to the attachment rod. The mirror tends to drift a little when driving at highway speeds.
I wanted to take my doors off and realized the mirrors were on the door, oops. There mirrors fit the bill. Easy to install, work well, look good. JC
I used these without my doors the first time and had some noise from the vibration. To remedy the vibration and stop the sound, I simply use two layers of electrical tape vertically on the entire hinge before sliding on the mirrors. I even used these mirrors on a 12 hour road trip along the interstate highways at 75+ without any problems! The electrical tape also helps to keep the screw from damaging any paint on the hinge. Improves mirror for a nice snug fit. Works great. To adjust the housing, you can use vise-grips to loosen and tighten the ball at the joint. All and all, I'm diggin' these. They look great too!!!
These fit over the door hinges and are held in place with a hex-headed bolt. You can, technically, use them with the doors on but they are completely ineffective (you cannot adjust them to see properly). If you're determined to use them with the doors on, you'll want to be extra careful about opening the door too wide because the sleeve that mounts the mirrors to the hinge WILL bend if pinched hard. With the doors off, they can be adjusted, but if your Jeep is like mine they vibrate and come out of adjustment pretty quickly. Adjustments are more easily made if you loosen the screws first. Don't force the mirror or the housing WILL crack. I had these on my YJ for a couple years before the passenger side walked away (we figure it loosened and a parking lot prankster thought it would be funny to walk off with it). Not long after that, the driver side mirror housing cracked while I was trying to adjust it. I should have just bought the bolt-on frame mount mirrors in the first place. They would have been less expensive and more effective. These mirrors MAY be useful to Jeepers who do rock crawling, as they can be mounted upside down to get a view under the tub. In Maine, we have more muddy tote roads than rocky areas. I never once found a reason to mount them upside down here.
these things are garbage they don't fit properly and fall apart when you try to adjust them. Save your time and money don't buy 'em
I dont reccomend these if your driving on the interstate. They move way to easily, May be ok on the trails, There not designed for interstate driving.
Got a set of these as a gift, they are GREAT! Can't believe I went 4 years without them. Built well, easy to install, and never had a problem with them even on the trail.
These were just what my husband was looking for-an easy, non permanent fix for mirrors when the doors came off. One BIG problem...the little bolts they came with to tighten the mirrors to the door hinge were useless. There is a blue piece of plastic that we're assuming is supposed to prevent scratching the hinge except it is so thick that it prevents you from even tightening it. A trip the the hardware section of a DIY store and $1.89 later we had functional bolts, but it was an unnecessary headache given the price of these. Other than this issue, they are great.

/p>The story of how American Outlaw Designs began in the Jeep accessory business is a true United States story indeed. Owner Randy was in the Army's reactionary force in the 1980s and his division was 101st Airborne. Jeeps were the go-to ride of his unit and when his service ended he started custom designing modifications for his own Jeep in his garage. He started getting requests to custom modify the Jeeps of friends and friends of friends. In 2004, he decided to market his mods starting with the American Outlaw Jeep Mirror. From there, his business grew and so did his product line, and today Randy is still intimately involved in the design and craftmanship of the products under the American Outlaw name.
Let's face it: off-roading isn't for the faint of heart. It takes guts to crawl over boulders, traverse rough terrain, and speed through the mud. That's why it is only for the most rugged drivers around. Off-roading also requires tough aftermarket Jeep parts. For that, you can order American Outlaw parts from 4WD.com.
By Jeepers for Jeepers
American Outlaw's founder, Randy, is a veteran of the United States Army's 101st Airbourne division and serviced Jeeps often. When you left the service, he continued working on Jeeps. People loved his work so much that they requested mods by him. After much prodding, he decided to start American Outlaw Designs and launch the revolutionary Outlaw Mirror. The company has grown since it began in 2004, but it has always remained faithful to its roots.
American Outlaw may have started with mirrors, but it has quickly expanded to make parts for your whole Jeep. You can find removable mirrors, door pin guides, tailgate keepers, quad lights, and drifter nets right here on 4WD.com.
