Superwinch was founded by Frank Tolsdorf, who began as part of the winch design team for Ford Motor Company. Tolsdorf's entrepreneurial spirit led him to build his own winch fabrication facility in northeast Connecticut and start the company Superwinch. The first line of Superwinch products were marketed toward the boating community before Superwinch purchased one U.S. and one U.K. winch company to increase the team of engineers and its manufacturing capacity. With that expanded engineering team, Superwinch began leading in the hydraulic and worm drive winch space. Superwinch was the first winch maker to innovate with the use of synthetic winch ropes and off-roaders flock to their exceptional winches.
