Fitch Fuel Catalyst: How to Track Your Gas Savings

Tracking your fuel economy is an essential part of making sure you’re getting the best MPG. Here are two easy ways to keep an eye on those gas mileage numbers.

Utilize these methods in conjunction with the Fitch Fuel Catalyst and see the savings for yourself!

Standard Odometer Method
  • Fill up your gas tank completely, noting the odometer reading on your vehicle’s mileage (e.g. 35,003 miles).
  • When it’s time to refuel, record the odometer mileage once more, and also keep track of how many gallons it took to fill your tank (e.g. 35,356 miles and 12 gallons).
  • Subtract the latest mileage reading from the previous one (e.g. 35,356 minus 35,003 equals 353 miles).
  • Now divide the resultant value by the number of gallons filled to calculate your miles per gallon (e.g. 353 miles divided by 12 gallons equals 29.41 miles per gallon).
Trip Odometer Method
  • Fill up your gas tank completely and reset your trip odometer to zero.
  • When it’s time to refuel, record the trip odometer mileage, and also note the number of gallons it took to fill your tank (e.g. 324 miles and 13.6 gallons).
  • Divide the number of miles indicated from the trip odometer by the number of gallons filled to calculate your miles per gallon (e.g. 324 miles divided by 13.6 gallons equals 23.82 miles per gallon).

It is strongly recommended that you keep a notepad or booklet on hand to record your miles per gallon each fill-up.

Should you see a drastic change in your miles per gallon from one fill up to the next, think about what you did differently that could result in such a change.
